I used to keep only a few hundred pounds alive in our fishmarket. Running pump and tanks was expensive and tedious(and I had access to ocean water)
Many boats are bringing in that and more in just a day(some more than a thousand pounds). It's not realistic for them to sell them from their boats, but some may have floats that they can keep them alive in containers, at least a few hundred pounds.
The big lobster pounds may be full now having stocked up on low prices. They'll make a killing when the shells harden up IF they have a market.
They're only good for 24 hours or so on ice or refrigerated and the big groceries can only keep so many alive in their store tanks.
The Maine lobstermen today, at leas the bulk of the group are dependent on Canadian processors.
