I needed a repair only a boatyard could do.

And then only because there is a metal magician I know there. My son had a docking mishap.... While leaving the dock, he forgot a spring line... With plenty of steam, the line fetched up between the upper and center lifelines of one of my 51 year old solid bronze cast stanchions. Because the gate was not latched(thankfully), it laid that stanchion nearly flat on the deck, a beautiful bend, really,...(I couldn't bear to photograph it)

I didn't think Joel(metal magician) would be able to straighten it, expecting he'd cut it and rebuild the area. I also found Concordia still builds the stanchions, but without the nickel finish sadly, that mine have. And I didn't want to price one either. Options were bleak.

Amazingly, he was able to return it to it's shape!

I brought the boat into the docks so he could fine tune the bend. I have to say despite the odd build of my boats coreless solid glass decks, there was no damage at all. The enormous bronze mounting socket and backing plates didn't budge either.

It was good to get it all back together, with absolutely no physical trace of the episode that will forever make my darling son, NEVER forget a spring line again.
