Just received an email from a friend and his wife currently cruising in the Solomon islands. He's ok but had a heart attack in an area that had no medical facilities except for a small clinic where the heart problem was somewhat confirmed. They joined 'DAN' ( Divers Alert Network ) a few years ago. The cost is $55.00 a year. They called DAN and a Lear Jet was dispatched with 2 pilots, a heart specialist and a nurse. They were flown to Australia where he was taken care of.

Just thought the concept of Divers Alert Network for a medical evacuation was interesting. The heart attack had nothing to do with diving as they don't even SCUBA. He had the heart attack after a hike.
