Here's a link that shows actual storm surge in Western Long Island Sound.

Good luck to all.

There are a lot of boats that aren't going to make it after tonight's midnight high tide cycle. At around 11:00 AM we were at flood levels here in western LIS and the wind is still out of the north. When it turns to the east there is a whole lot of water that's going to pile up in western LIS. We may well see the 10+ foot storm surge they're predicting.

"Tonight: E winds 35 to 45 kt with gusts up to 75 kt...becoming se 25 to 35 kt with gusts up to 60 kt after midnight. Seas 9 to 12 ft... subsiding to 5 to 7 ft. Rain until early morning. Rain late. Vsby 1 to 3 nm. "

The image below of the Stamford hurricane barrier was taken around 10:30am today from the outside (sea side) of the barrier. As you can see, there is about 5 or 6 feet of margin left on those pilings, and at that time there was about 4 feet of storm surge according to the table in the link below this image. Judging by the size of the door on the hurricane barrier building, I estimate the barrier has about another 10 or 11 feet of margin. The next 24 hours are going to be a nail-biter for a lot of boat owners.
