Cruising Sailors Forum Archive

Sounds familiar. But you are ultimately happy and your problem is fixed ...

... it's a good thing you were as involved as you were and that you know your boat as well as you do. What about the poor soul new to boating, just starting out or doesn't have the time and expertise to know his boat that well, and relies on other professionals to make sure work is done right ? Which probably represents the majority of cruisers. I'm impressed by this fellow Bill to realize his error, stand up and make good, he's probably from New England. Likely would not happen in Florida.

Have been following this story Steve, thanks for all the insights and details, it was interesting and probably something we all will or have encountered, especially on our older boats. I learned a bunch, as usual with the technical aspects of this Board. It's nice to know something of importance done incorrectly long ago is now done properly, crossed off your list and you'll sleep better at night.

Thanks again and happy to hear you are on your way ...

Cheers, John
