I found a very nice latch...

to replace finger pulls. They have a retractable knob. With the knob extended they hold the door closed like a spring catch that will open when pulled. When the knob is pushed in the door is held closed firmly. They fit perfectly in the finger hole but took a lot of work to get the fixed part of the catch positioned right.

I got them in New Zealand and have never seen ones exactly like them in the U.S. They are made by a company named Armstrong, not the U.S flooring company. Made in China.
