I had some small areas where the diamond pattern was screwed up from chips and holes that had been filled. I replicated the pattern with a technique I came up with out of necessity. There are a number of ways I've researched but this works really good for smaller areas.
Fill the area with resin and sand flat with a small block and sandpaper. Take two hacksaw blades and break one making it about 4 inches long. Hold the unbroken hacksaw blade along the diamond pattern and using the short blade cut the pattern in the one direction using the long hacksaw blade as an alignment guide for the short one. When cut to depth switch to the other direction and cut again. You'll end up with the diamond pattern matching but with sharp edges. Fold a piece of fine sandpaper around the short hacksaw blade and round out the edge. Then paint.
I did that behind my cockpit coating when I moved the winch and had 6 holes. When finished I couldn't tell where I repaired it.
