I'm due to swap out my starting battery, as well... I have a set of gels from West Marine that I'm happy with, my house bank is still doing OK, so I want to stick with something compatible...

Looks to me like the charging parameters of the Optima are roughly equivalent, does anyone know for certain if using one as a starter will pose any problems?
