Good concept but we use masking tape.

It works on the same principle. Make a loop in the line and fasten to the boat hook at the end and down the shaft a bit to make the loop. Two raps of tape is about right. Once the loop is over the cleat or bollard just tug a bit and the tape tears away. I learned this from another boat when we were trying to tie off to the big, floating bollards in the lock at Bonneville Dam on the Columbia River.
