Went to see a presentation of the America's Cup and info on America's Cup's new AC72's including new technology, speed and new problems at the club last night. Learned quite a bit. Amazing pieces of equipment. I'm not sure if they're even boats anymore.
The crews on the AC72's are now able to round a mark without loosing foil lift. Speeds are in excess of 45 knots and the speed is causing communication and vision challenges for the crews. There is so much work for the crew that Oricle's team leader 'Russel Coutts' has decided he's not up to the physical demands of being on the boat and has replaced himself. Due to the speeds of the AC72's there is no longer any downwind leg as the apparent wind is always ahead of the beam.
Most of you know more than I and this was an eye opener for sure. An amazing time for the cup.
