It's been interesting. Many of you know that I've been hanging around here for many years. Well, originally at the old Cruising World message board, and then here when that turned to shit. I was a sailor for 40 years, had some life transitions, and wound up cruising in a 46' trawler of all things. Of course, I couldn't do that in the normal way, and we wintered in Annapolis and summered in Georgia.
We put Drift Away on the hard for awhile. It's for sale, but chances are that in this market, an old trawler isn't exactly a hot commodity and we'll be back after Christmas. But in the meantime, we've swallowed the hook and are living in a cabin/house/retreat on Bleecker Mountain in upstate New York. It's a place we rented about a mile from the land we bought and will be building on. For modern conveniences, it has electricity. That's it. No cable TV, no cell service, no telephone, and no internet. No nothing. Until yesterday, when I had Hughes Net satellite internet installed.
Nope, I still can't dial 9-11, but I can post photos on this message board. Hey, a person has to have priorities.
And quite honestly, yes. I miss the boat. A lot. But I also love not being on a boat. I can just open the door and let the dogs out.
