Started the home A/C today.

Temp in the house climbed to 83F, and we still had the t'stat set to Heat. Flipped the switch to Cool, on came the A/C, and set the hold temp to 80F as we're going to be away for a while - don't want the poor cats to suffer too much while we're gone.
Last night noticed the older cat (12) limping. Oh great, and here we are going away & letting the neighbor look after things. Trip to the vet this afternoon showed a wounded toe, port fwd. Elevated temp & lots of white cells at the wound site, so antibiotics. I can't believe how well the cat behaved as the vet was digging around in the wound. Doc gave us three choices - pill once a day, liquid once a day, or a shot good for two weeks. Our faces lit up when we heard choice #3 - didn't even ask the price difference. So our neighbor just has to do the food and water thing, plus check that the toe doesn't start to look like a grape. If it does, call our son & he'll get the cat back to the vet.
So, off we go. Boston tomorrow, then on board Veendam Saturday. Sunday in BaHaBa, then on to Nova Scotia, PEI, and Quebec. Back in Boston in 2 weeks. Not sure if I can stand the cruise ship life for two weeks - longest yet has been 10 days. Oh well, never know if you don't try..
