There is a gizmo called 'clamptite.' I bought one at a boat show. You can use it to make hose clamps. I have also used it instead of a splice to finish the end of a halyard. It held for years without troubles. You can make the clamp as narrow as you want. It is about $30 and I am happy with mine. Usual no-affiliation disclaimer.
