If you want 40 amps charging make sure you add the house demands into the equation. If your boat has a base draw of say 10 amps then you would want a 50 amp charger. Also make sure you have enough charging to make sure you stay above the highest draw your boat needs. Usually the windlass won't figure into this equation but if you have some heavy refrigeration motors and lots of incandescent lights etc count them.
