Cruising Sailors Forum Archive

Only had a little use, but the Garmin chart app is what I hoped it would be.

I've been "cruising" familiar waters(from my kitchen), up and down the coast and moving from area to area, by a few hundred yards, or by a hundred miles, easy, seamless and fast. I've been using online stuff in the off season and found it a pretty poor tool. This is super method to explore the coast when not on the boat. Ready tide charts(no longer on my outdated CP chips). Haven't turned on the ACtive captain yet but will.

Should be a real great chart tool on the boat even before I put an external antenna onboard for the ipad to chart plotter.

Our onboard CP is a small screen that makes this sort of looking around very clunky. Plus the clarity and brightness on the ipad is so much better. I bet the ipad will find a spot under the dodger next to the camera. Dry and handy and the CP in the companionway where I'm used to it. Nice app for 30 bucks, all US coastal through the Caribbean.
