A bank of batteries near their useful life

Would not be served by routinely really overcharging them. If one battery in the bank " goes" you could have a cascade effect.

If you want to try desulfating them, do it carefully and very infrequently.

I'd go cautiously and watchout for the first one to go.

I wouldn't be putting much over 14.6 volts and I would be careful not to let them get fried.
