Hey TD, good to hear from you. The Dahl instructions say to open the petcock at the bottom and drain all the fuel, sediment, water out before removing the housing from the mount. Then to replace the element, fill the bowl with fresh fuel and replace it. It appears that the bowl is pretty clean, I see no water or sediment.
I wasn't actually going to crank the engine, when you turn the key to ON it energizes the electric pump which in theory should suck fuel into the filter, although I would think sucking air might cause it to lose prime? I dunno about that part. Using the manual pump makes sense, assuming it will draw fuel through the electric pump??
