jackstand pad preference?

We just picked up our Brownell stands in Buffalo this past weekend, the flat tops are the standard orange painted wood, V stand is padded with black foam. In the past I have used different types of indoor/outdoor carpeting to pad the flat tops, however this past year I found a pretty significant blister under one and decided that carpeting was a bad idea as it holds the moisture. I checked the few stands that have tops on them in our corral at the club and find a variety of ideas included carpeting, the non-skid rubber mats used under plates on a picnic table, rubber and just plain wood.

For those that have to haul boats for the winter, what do you use and why?
