I didn't realize the NZ Boat has a self-tacking jib ...

Interesting ... The Kiwi crew feels this is a major advantage. The tactician on the Oracle boat has to grind, to pump hydraulics to trim the jib, and perhaps taking some concentration away from his primary duties, not to mention he's probably exhausted. Ray Davies doesn't have to do that on the NZ boat, giving him more time to survey & calculate the right move. Kostecki clearly blew it on the last Race, not only on that second rounding, but the entire upwind leg, which I guess is why he won't be racing today. I don't think you can expect a 50 year old to grind, and call tactics, when boat are moving along at 50 mph. $100 million bucks and it comes down to a self-tacking jib, wow ! Cheers, John
