Parbuckling is an old trick for loading almost anything cylindrical up a ramp. Lines are fastened to a solid belay point, passed under the load and back. They are then hauled to roll the load, normally up a ramp, or even the side of a ship. It takes less effort than hoisting the load. Parbuckle salvage is just one application of the technique.
