As Brian says (or I think meant to say): On oil based paints on PLASTER or some hard interior woods one of those heater might work. If you daughter in law is going to be using for taking off old varnish or paint (not latex), she could just use a heat gun more safely. If you have latex paint, then I'd just sand and cover with another coat, myself.
