Prepping for a blow

Marine Forecast Today: Se winds 10 to 15 kt with gusts up to 20 kt...becoming S 15 to 20 kt with gusts up to 30 kt this afternoon. Seas around 2 ft. Areas of fog early this morning. A slight chance of showers with patchy drizzle early this morning...then a chance of showers with a slight chance of tstms early this afternoon. Showers likely with a slight chance of tstms late. Vsby 1 to 3 nm early this morning...then 1 to 3 nm late.

My mooring is exposed to a long fetch to the SE, and with this forecast (if the winds are sustained above 20) I could have 4-6 foot waves at my mooring later -- so I decided to remove my anchor, keeping in mind the excellent article posted by Maine Sail (Compass Marine) http://www.pbase.com/mainecruising/mooring_prep in 2010.

Here's a view this morning to the SE. Those islands don't provide much shelter from waves that build from 50+ miles away.

I have a triple bridle for my mooring connection, and the center connection is adjusted to be a bit slack so it will never come into play unless one of the side legs were to fail. I replace my bridle every 2 years and pennant every 3 years, even if they show no chafe. They are well protected from chafe, and after owning trimarans and using this setup for 12 years, one has never failed (knock wood). Still, stuff happens, so I allow for the possibility that the center pennant will be needed at some time. This morning I put the anchor up on deck "just in case".

My setup:

Bridle connections are metal-metal (looking from above):

Anchor removed and lashed to the rail using zip ties, rags and an old cushion:
