By chance we were sailing past the Kennedy Space Center yesterday when an Atlas 5 rocket lifted off with a Maven orbiter on its way to Mars. We didn't even know a launch was scheduled. Years ago I was similarly lucky and caught a shuttle launch from the Indian River then saw the booster rocket being towed back in through the Canaveral inlet the next day. It's not quite as exciting as the old Mercury days but it's still a nice thrill.
