I spent some time there in the early 60's as a young kid with my family, mostly on Eluthera. Having returned later on my own boat, I was amazed at the abandoned projects in the Bahamas. Booms come and go bust, like the wind down there. As a builder, I even checked out a few lots because the price was so attractive. Designing a small rent-able off the grid -island crest utopia- was very attractive to the younger me.
But something told me, don't do it. Politics, transportation, local direction, severe weather, all were too unpredictable. You could get a letter in the mail saying 'you no longer owned your island utopia, but thank you for coming to the Bahamas, mon'.
I don't worry much about the remote side of the Bahamas losing it's appeal to visiting cruisers. Little seems to stick to those beautiful low islands except the Bahamians.
