I personally feel the difference is that designers of the older boats

Like the one in the first picture, and my Meridian, cut their design "teeth" on wooden designs, and the lines of the glass boats they drew still followed lines that would allow a plank to lay fair. They were working in a new medium (glass) using techniques from the older times.

Of course, as an old guy, who first sailed on a wooden boat ( in 1957) I might be a bit prejudiced - grin

I LOVE the older designs although I know we give up a bit of interior space with them , over the modern ones, but that's a trade off I'll accept. I love looking at her as I row away, and THAT makes a beautiful boat.

Phil Rhodes sure drew a lovely sheer didn't he?
