Just like the first visitors that crawled out of the water and up the rocks ions ago, we come by water today.
There's no escape from natures wrath. Star Island, like the rest of the Isle of Shoals has yet to grow one good tree. There's not a square inch that isn't exposed to the severe weather.
Since birds first took flight, Star has been their beacon along this ancient flyway.
In these current times(last few hundred years), attempts at claiming Star Island don't appear to change the reality. Remnants of old farms, headstones, stone walls continually wear away.
Buildings guyed to rocks show a losing battle with nature.
Like the attraction of a distant windswept mountain top, it's humbling to pause on top of Star Island and take the immensity of the sea in.
