little boats as a hobby.
Then I went to work for Prudential as a programmer, and spent 17 years there.
But always the wood in the back ground. Built a few small boats, then a 35 foot trimaran, while working full time, and went cruising for 3 years. Back in Florida, started a rigging and refurbishing business, then due to family concerns moved back to Texas onto the family farm.
No big boats around in the Piney Woods of east Texas, so I got into furniture repair, refinish and custom building for ten years.
Separated, and moved down to the coast with new wife, where I owned a furniture repair and refinish shop for 15, 16 years, then switched over to building boats. Then went cruising again, for 2 1/2 years.
In the last ten years I've built 12 or so boats, from 22 feet down to 6 1/2 foot dinghies- whatever someone wanted,, plus a few for me- couple kayaks, stuff like that.
Also did interior rebuilds on more than one big boat, like a Bayfield 25, Vanguard 32 and a Tartan 37. Total interior redo's in some cases ripping out everything and redoing.
Still have a full bore wood shop right beside the house, where I spend a good bit of time even though I am supposedly retired.
Tell ya what- there's better money to be made doing furniture, than doing boats-grin. It's way steadier
