We did not want to varnish the factory oiled teak. Well............the admiral told me that we didn't want to varnish the factory oiled teak to be exact. I had a bottle of the Starbrite Golden Teak Oil which we used and found it to be a waste of time. I put this subject out for the crew here and Tung Oil was suggested which I researched and found it to contain varnish so I passed on that. I was actually at WalMart buying something else, walked down the paint oil and spotted a can labeled "Teak Oil" on the bottom shelf. It turned out to be Minwax Helmsman Teak Oil and it was about $10. I picked up a quart, tried on a section of teak bulkhead and was amazed. It smells a little like linseed oil and leaves the teak fresh looking, not oily and not shiny. I used it on all the bulkheads, table, shelves, drawers, companionway ladder, etc. Could not be happier with the results. You rub it on, it soaks in and takes an hour or so to "dry". Unlike the Starbrite stuff, it seems to stay put so to speak. It does not evaporate or disappear. I used a full quart for the interior, it is about the thickness and color of motor oil.
