And that's currently the warmest part of Lake Michigan.

Southern Lake Michigan surface water temperatures -- http://www.coastwatch.msu.edu/michigan/m5.html

I just came down the northeast part of Lake Michigan. Surface water temperatures there are mostly still in the 30s and 40s. See http://www.coastwatch.msu.edu/michigan/m1.html . Despite air temps in the 60s and above, I had to wear several insulating layers to stay warm. My number one rule for my spring cruise is "Don't fall off the boat."

Yet, on shore, it was gorgeous and very comfortable. Easy to forget the water is dangerously cold. When I arrived in Traverse City, I was told that a young man had died when he dove into the cold water.

The photo is of my boat at the Charlevoix City Marina last Thursday.
