A four hour trip. Boat is a Bayliner 28.5 with I/O drive.
I was expecting to have a hostess aboard that would also help with docking/casting off. At the last minute I was solo.
Have not handled a powerboat in many years - took some getting used to. I had done a check ride with the boat owner a few days earlier but with two crew aboard. For docking I am used to coasting a sailboat and still being able to steer. With this I/O drive there is really no steering control unless in gear.
The trip was a run across Saratoga passage to Everett, refuel while the customers were having a drink and a ride back. Went along the shore - the customers were interested in the waterfront homes. They were just two people - a couple in their 40's. A very expensive afternoon for just two of them. They seemed to have a good time and tipped very well. Since I was glued to the helm for the whole trip we didn't talk all that much. I was glad to be able to answer their few questions accurately. The water was flat until the last 15 minutes when it got a little rough and they got a little wet. They didn't seem to mind and as I said they gave a generous tip.
I did start with a safety briefing and lifejacket practice. The charter organizer seemed to like my talk.
So, for the first charter with all the time spent on the interview, boat review, check ride and the time of the charter the pay was pretty poor but that will get better with more charters averaged in.
