Spoke them today

We were on our way out of Castine after a night in Smith Cove. The fog was thicker than anything we saw this summer in Nova Scotia or Newfoundland. Ruffian saw us on AIS and called to ask how the fog was out in East Penobscot Bay. It was no better than in Holbrook Harbor where they were anchored. We had a pleasant chat. Then our engine died, very mysteriously, and we sailed in light air back to Belfast. The problem is a lack of fuel but I haven't sorted it out yet.

In the old days, I would read stories where someone "spoke them" on another boat. I don't know if anyone still uses that phrasing today. Anyway, that's what's on the subject line. With Ruffian it somehow seemed appropriate.
