Off we go

Ladies and gentlemen,

You might be interested in my adventure. I leave Cap d'Agde in south west France next Tuesday, 21 October (weather permitting) and I am sailing with two friends across the Atlantic, final destination Guadeloupe, in the Caribbean fulfilling a lifetime's dream.

I am going to do a blog and you can follow my progress :
https://my.yb.tl/Surya/ I aim to arrive here before Thanksgiving (about the time of the Route du Rhum guys and girls) as two of my four granddaughters will be there waiting for me.
SURYA (The name comes from a Hindu God of the Sun and a Buddhist God of protection so we are covering most of the bases) is a Hunter 41DS built in back end of 2008 acquired by me in 2010 and she had not been loved.
I have added a lot of things to the boat. Wind turbine and solar panels, SSB radio, radar AIS. I have also added an active radar reflector, and I have put in a water maker.
I have a Pactor modem with the SSB radio to which, if you only use very short messages, think texting, you can email me when we are at sea. Surya’s email address is faa3034@sailmail.com but the radio won’t be on all the time so don’t expect a very fast response.
The course we are sailing is from Cap d’Agde in the French Mediterranean down past Spain, past the Balearic Islands (Mallorca and Minorca) to Gibraltar where we will stock up with fuel and food. Then we leave Gibraltar and go south towards the Canaries and then further south past Cap Verde, just off the coast of west Africa, then we turn right and head west to Guadeloupe in the Caribbean. Easy!
