I get tremendous satisfaction restoring 150 year old windows these days. It takes a knack and desire to make them energy efficient, but it can be done.

And it means some added maintenance over new windows-- in the short term. In the long term, it can save time and money. And they look better.

Here's some original 1850 windows ready for another 150 years. And a 150 year old door, now varnished.
