Winding down for the holiday

Wishing all that celebrate the day a Happy Thanksgiving. To all of you who are in warmer places with unfrozen water.......enjoy, we'll be back next week.

We are almost packed and ready to head to our cabin in the mountains. This is traditionally a big weekend in our area, it is opening weekend of whitetail deer season and although I don't have buck fever like when I was younger, it is still a great time. We will be eating well, drinking a lot and telling plenty of stories to the next generation of hunters that head to the woods while the old guys do the cooking. My $26 HD TV antenna from Amazon will get us football on the flat screen as well, a recent addition to the vast selection of VHS tapes.

One eye opener in the local paper was an announcement that the largest black bear taken during that season last weekend was taken down the road from our cabin............677 pounds. The article on MSN today about the hiker in New Jersey that was killed by a 300 pound black bear was a reality check and one reason no one leaves the cabin without a sidearm.
