Our 2014 Baja HaHa crew. On the left is the boat owner, Al. That's me in the middle (occasionally referred to as Mr 12 Volt) and on the right is the other crew (& great cook), Chuck.
This was my 4th time down Baja and the first on someone else's boat. I've gotta say that it was really nice to just show up in San Diego a couple of days before the start and having some else do all the work getting the boat ready.
We had the time of our lives sailing the 750 mile length of Baja in Al's Ranger 33.
p.s. It was also a nice add that we took 1st in our division. Before anyone think that we are masters of making boats go fast, I think the 1st was more about our having sailed (as opposed to motoring) more than the others in the division than it was about our overall time. For those unaware of it, motoring in the HaHa is not only allowed, but sometimes expected. This year, the 1st and 3rd legs had very light winds and in fact, on the first leg the "rolling start" (where motoring due to light winds doesn't count against you) was never canceled and you were allowed to motor all the way to Turtle Bay without penalty. By way of contrast, the middle leg was described by the Poobah as the 2nd windiest leg in the 21 years of the running of the HaHa.
