Went to have dinner in a local campground at a friends GIANT RV, 3 extenders, 35’, the whole shebang. Big, beautiful $250,000.00 and with a non-silenced generator that they didn’t want to turn off.
We were all having a fine dinner alongside the RV in a campground except for the noise of the generator. I really thought they’d shut it off when it came time for dinner outside under the awning of the RV just after dark. NADA, the damn thing ran the entire time we were having dinner.
Why? I have no idea as it wasn't needed.
The guy next to us, literally 20’ away started his car and began revving the engine and making a lot of noise to which our hosts thought was outragiously inconsiderate of them. To me it was an attempt to say “HEY, it’s time to be a bit quieter,” or, “shut the damn thing down” which our hosts didn’t get. We stayed silent. After all, we were guests. About 10 minutes later the campground ranger came over and said, “it’s after 8PM, time to turn your generator off” which our host did, a bit angry over what he called “The Natzi Camp Ranger”.
What I don’t understand is the fact that they were also sailors. The Admiral said it’s because they’re racers, not cruisers. OK, I understand that but what about courtesy to your neighbor?
How about courtesy to your guests and why would you spend $250,000.00 on an RV and not put a sound box on the generator?
Same old generator story except a different set of circumstances. It boggles the mind.
