We had the pleasure of meeting Jeff & Debbie on SV Sailors Run last month in Manzanillo Mx for Debbie's birthday. I received an email from their experience in Acapulco. They were in touch with a becalmed boat with a disabled engine 300 miles off shore requesting a commercial tow. When they were unable to agree on a price for a tow they received a lot of encouragement (mentoring) from the local cruisers to wait for wind and sail. End of story they sail within 15 miles of port, launch their dinghy with outboard. Later closer met with more support from local cruisers aided into port safely with no cost but several rounds of cervezas. What is different with this story than others that were abandoned or towed at great expense? Having support, being cheap, owning the boat? This story does not make headlines but deserves attention from folks voyaging in my opinion. Tom Evans SV Tappan Zee La Paz
