whenever buying that stuff I usually go somewhere in Lowes and find a magnet and carry it around with me to check their "stainless steel". No problem buying shitty stainless, I just want to know how fast it will go. You might be able to find brass or plastic too.

That goes for West Marine as well. I have lots of their parts slowly (or not so) rusting away on my boats.
