We were close a few seasons ago, almost bought a Hunter 27. It was a former club member who, IMO, has more money than sense so ordered a brand new h27 in 2005. It is packed with options and actually weighs as much as the h306. He has rarely used the boat. Having climbed in and through the boat I liked the ease of getting to all the systems, through hulls, etc and so forth. My wife and I were sitting on board and started to look at the interior workmanship. We were amazed at how poorly it was put tighter compared to say our Islander. Nothing fit quite right, there was a lot of plastic trim that didn't fit, joinery work that had very obvious gaps and looked like different kinds of wood. It just looked like it was put together very quickly and not very carefully. It was about an hour after that we found the Island Packet and saw the other end of the spectrum.
If you don't mind that kind of stuff then maybe a Hunter would be OK?
