Cruising Sailors Forum Archive

Speaking of 'clueless', I saw it on display in the boatyard yesterday.

Harry is like a second son. Not a sailing family, we had him onboard, overnight, regularly as he grew up. That led to his dad, a great friend, buying an old(little$) 22-23' full keel glass, knockabout(I don't know the brand) boat for the family. Harry, the oldest son, is the captain and most knowledgable in a completely non sailing-boat family.

As I pulled in, "Storm Petrel" was glossy black. Harry and a few friends(usually my son, but he's out of the country) were just finishing up painting the topsides. It was roughly applied-runs galore, with no prep(as I expect from 'kids').

Even as I realized, Harry had used heavy black copper based Bottom Paint on the topsides, I encouraged him. We were all clueless once when it comes to boats, sailing, even paint...
