I've been aware of these issues for some time and the only self protective remedy I can think of that makes some small sense is to have an umbrella policy over and above my boat policy. Let's face it we most often choose the marina by its location not its contract provisions, and who among us reads the transient slip rental agreement? Does anyone have a better idea other then assuming all the risk as part of the boating experience?
