As a racing boat OK. It sucks when cruising.

We looked at a Stevens 50. A really nice vessel except for that companionway. When in the cockpit it was like you were on the moon and completely isolated from your partner. That was a deal breaker for double handed cruising. When you need help at 3AM and the only other person on the boat is asleep somewhere below and can't hear you it really sucks. We looked for a boat with off watch bunks that can be seen from the cockpit.

I'm not familiar with that Swan but would think that you would need to yell through a port to get someones attention. I always liked being in the cockpit, looking down and seeing the Admiral sleeping comfortably within view.
