A friend bought one without and puchased an external GPS for it. When he updated the iOS the GPS would no longer function. Obviously the manufacture didn't follow Apples guidelines when they wrote the drivers but either way it didn't work. At the price of Captain Kirk Command console the iPad is IMHO the best nav tool out there.
