I think it was a NY-30(if not, a NY40). The first of about 20 were built in 1905. They're still popular around the world and race today in classic boat races. There's something about the lines that are timeless over a hundred years later in a day of much faster racers.
Across the harbor, I watched the newly built W-Class 42 come rolling out, freshly painted. A whole new boat designed by (the late) Joel White, that evolved from classic lines like those of the NY-30. Most notable to my eye is the cabin design. Low, small rectangular ports. Simple, classic design that will never be out of style.
