Some reasons to consider Norway for a cruising destination:
Spectacular scenery - Islands jutting right up to the sky, glaciers that run to the sea, archipelagos of islands, sandy beaches. Descriptions really can't do it justice. And it's spectacular pretty much everywhere you go up and down the coast (at least the northern half of the country where we were)
Almost entirely inner passages with smooth water, though you can hop out easily to make passages up or down the coast
Very friendly, interesting, capable people who go out of their way to welcome you
Gotta admire a country where you pay for most marine facilities by 'honor box'
Drop a hook overboard and pull up fish almost at will
Little or no darkness makes for much easier sailing - sail when the time is right -no worries getting in before dark
Solar panels are working most of the time
Countless anchoring or docking possibilities
Hundreds of remote island communities each with its own unique culture; like having a Monhegan, Matinicus or Frenchboro every few miles along hundreds of miles of coastline
Fascinating things to explore: mountains with holes right through them, 1,000 yr old eider down farms, 12th century churches, old fishing communities, prehistoric rock drawings, swim-able Arctic lakes, Viking remnants
When you visit customs to clear in they say there's nothing you need to do; I had to plead with them to stamp our passports to 'show we tried' (at least that was our experience in Alesund)
Did I say spectacular scenery, everywhere you turn
Big thanks to Jon E. He posted several years ago 'of all the places I've sailed, if I could return to one it would be Norway.' That was one of the catalysts to get me over here. Also benefitted from Neil McCubbins descriptions, and many others.
