Re: 3 boating fatalities around Catalina Island in last 2 weeks / Between the boating deaths and

the Sharks, Denny and I are having a hard time getting into the water! Just after we picked up our mooring after an overnight 12.5 hour crossing I heard over the VHF that an 8 foot hammerhead was spotted in the mooring field just off Hen Rock. That's about 3.5 miles up the island. They're still looking for the missing boater. The harbor boat guy said that two boats were involved, a Boston Whaler and a hard bottom inflatable. They were playing grab ass on the way back to their boat which was anchored off Discanso. They were crossing back over the wake of the whaler and collided. Probably a hard night of drinking at one of the night spots. The helicopters were at it all day again today going up and down the island looking for the body. I can tell you that based on my previous time spent as a reserve deputy with the counties Under Water Search and Recovery team that he won't float for another week. By that time he could be anywhere. I truly hope that they find him so they can get some closure. It's all very sad.
