I stopped at the fuel stop closest to the club this morning to pick up 3 gallons of off-road diesel fuel to mix with stabilizer and top up the tank on the boat. The nice lady behind the counter asked what I was going to do with it (which they always do like it is the last 3 gallons I need to top up the tank on my big rig), I told her it was for a boat. She said "you will need to pay tax on that then". I asked why I suddenly have to start paying road tax on off-road diesel if it is for a boat? The state of PA no longer considers a boat an off-road vehicle was the answer.
I guess the water is just a giant road around the world. I'm curious how my road tax is going to cover maintenance though?
