Escaping hurricanes was the central reason we sailed north in June

Hurricane Patrica was unusual in a couple of ways to my limited experience, first it turned from a storm to category 5 very fast. The hurricane force winds only spread 35 miles out from the eye when it came ashore. So the wind distruction swath resembled a large tornado in size. Also since it was so small in size and quick to form and come ashore the waves were not huge over a large area. Lastly since it was fast moving and small the amount at flooding in Mexico was limited.
