I think they're real shots but taken with a long telephoto and high ISO.

The fast film speed-ISO at a fast shutter speed like this, makes the shot very grainy and noisy which adds some drama( I think). And the low light looks abnormally warm, hot really. Telephoto lens I think are the biggest tricksters in the camera bag(digital or film).
It's a great image.
