The Hunter came factory equipped with a 12v cooler/fridge of unknown brand. It lives on a roll-out shelf under the galley where it has a dedicated 12 volt outlet to plug into. It didn't work as advertised, would not turn on, but made a decent icebox. At the end of the season I took it home to do an autopsy and figure out what happened. What I eventually found was a small hole melted down into the 12v plug. I replaced the plug and never quite got around to testing it. Morning before last I woke up at 3am thinking about testing the cooler among other things, so I dug out my brand new Coleman 110-12v cooler power thing from eBay and decided to give it a go. Plugged everything in and got no power to the cooler, all the lights were on the cooler and power supply, but the cooler wouldn't run. I tried plugging the power supply in upside down in the socket so it matched the picture on the power supply box(no instructions), bingo, everything was up and running.
The test I decided on involves placing two cans of Miller Lite in the cooler for 24 hours, at 7pm tonight I'm going to open the cooler and drink the beers if they are cold. I'm also going to check the temperature of the power supply to see if it is cool enough to use on board instead of the 12v outlet.
Not as intimidating as Tom's new cockpit but worth a day.
Yes, it has been snowing for days and the wind chill is in single digits.
